But underneath that, they feel these things deeply and I think sometimes we forget that when we read, as I did in your newspaper this morning, about a murder. You get that cop veneer, that tough, cynical thing that I think is a quite necessary defense mechanism to the things that they experience. ![]() But what I learned is that they are capable of and do tremendous acts of compassion and courage.
